Thank you to everyone who voted and helped in the Brixton Hill by-election. I’m chuffed to have received 1,593 votes, over 1,200 ahead of the second placed candidate and representing over 62% of the vote.
We spoke to thousands of residents during the campaign and heard about a lot of issues. I’ll be working with Florence and Alex to deal with everything as best we can, to take up the issues at the Town Hall and to communicate back to residents about what we are up to.
Thank you to many amazing people who helped in the campaign: the campaign team of Cathy Harvey, Brian Cowie, Pete Robbins and Morgan McSweeney who riso’d, data entried, leaflet designed and campaign planned excellently; Lib Peck and Jackie Meldrum who were amazingly supportive; Mark Bennett, Imogen Walker, Paul McGlone and hosts of other councillors who came and helped; Croydon Labour Party who came week in and week out, as well as Southwark Labour, Tooting Labour, Labour Campaign for International Development, London Young Labour and my brilliant union the GMB who all brought big groups of campaigners; Chuka Umunna MP, Diane Abbott MP and my predecessor Steve Reed MP, Val Shawcross AM, Tom Copley AM and Fiona Twycross AM for coming; and my flatmate Joe, my neighbours and my mum who put up with a lot, helped loads and kept everyone fed, watered and jolly.
And thanks to the council staff and volunteers, the Brixton Blog, the South London Press, Lambeth Weekender and Corpus Christi Church for their work in organising and promoting the election.
And thank you to all who voted and participated in the election!
